His cause of death is as of yet unconfirmed.

The news first publicly surfaced after it was posted to Instagram by Nas and was later confirmed by TMZ and XXL, which reports that Prodigy was found unconscious this morning.

Prodigy's battle with the disease first came to light during his war of words with late rapper 2Pac.

"As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth".

Prodigy, one half of the rap duo Mobb Deep, has died.

The hip hop star, whose real name is Albert Johnson, was on tour in Las Vegas performing with the "Art of Rap" tour alongside Ghostface Killah, Onylx, KRS-One, and Ice-T, amongst others. For now, we send our condolences, thoughts and prayers to the Johnson family and all of Prodigy's friends.

However, it was under the name Mobb Deep that they became one of the signature acts of 1990s NY hip-hop, perhaps best evidenced by the song "Shook Ones (Part II)". At press time the cause of death was unclear. There was also an advertised afterparty at popular nightclub 1OAK in Las Vegas following the show.

In 2000, Prodigy even wrote a song, You Can Never Feel My Pain, about Sickle Cell. The condition can lead to a painful blockage of blood flow.

Several years ago, Prodigy talked about his diagnosis and about the treatment he has undergone. Secondly, I take care of my health.

Havoc, who hasn't tweeted anything since 2016, has yet to release a statement on Prodigy's passing.
