More US counties are finding Zika-carrying mosquitoes

"I'm proud of the outreach the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services is conducting across our diverse communities", she added, according to a press release by the Long Beach City government. Newsweek reports the baby of an infected mother has a 6% chance of developing a birth defect. Aedes aegypti is a roughly quarter-inch large, black-and-white insect that is notably aggressive and is known to bite during the daytime. "It is imperative that we understand the potential neurologic and neurodevelopmental outcomes of Zika virus infection in children infected in infancy and early childhood". If the mosquitoes are detected at an early stage before they spread in a community, avoiding local transmission of the disease becomes easier. Neurologic exams and age-appropriate neurodevelopmental testing will be run for the duration of the study to identify changes in children infected with Zika virus.
With the updated data, researchers say the current distribution of Aedes aegypti extends to 220 counties in 28 states and the District of Columbia, with the heaviest concentration in southern California, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana and Florida. Though two blood screening exercises were carried out in the Gopalnagar area of Stadium ward and in Bapunagar ward after the Zika detection, the tests will be made mandatory during regular blood sampling, keeping in view the approaching monsoon and increasing density of Aedes aegypti mosquitos."We are following the general Zika virus protocol". Common symptoms of the virus include fever, rashes, headache, joint pain, conjunctivitis, and muscle pain.
Reported presence of Aedes aegypti by county between January 1995 and December 2016, based on collection records. City officials are urging residents to report unusual numbers of mosquitoes, or day-biting mosquitoes, to the city's Zika hotline at 562-570-7907.
Recruitment for the study will take place through an existing infrastructure of the Fundacion para la Salud Integral de los Guatemaltecos (FUNSALUD), affiliated with the University of Colorado's Department of Pediatrics and School of Public Health's Center for Global Health.
Secondary goals of the study are to characterize the effect of prior maternal dengue virus infection in Zika virus-infected infants and to evaluate if maternal infection (or children's own previous dengue virus infections) could result in more severe Zika virus disease in children via antibody-dependent enhancement, or ADE.
Since the start of 2017, there have been 136 suspected Zika cases in the United States, with all but one found in travelers returning from affected areas.

Having used such missiles in the past, Iranian leaders may see ballistic missiles as just another tool in the toolbox. Iran's Revolutionary Guard warned that it would retaliate similarly against anyone else carrying out attacks in Iran.
