Trump Told To Reign In Online Outbursts

19 June 2017, 04:32 | Jodi Jackson

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said opponents of President Donald Trump are spinning a "legalistic nightmare" in order "to block" the president's agenda and ruin his presidency, during an interview Sunday on ABC News' "This Week".

He said a reported investigation of Trump for obstruction of justice in the Russia probe - which Trump himself said is happening - is related to a failed attempt to prove election collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, which Gingrich called the "Russia Fantasy".

The former GOP House Speaker is doing the rounds of TV shows to promote his book "Understanding Trump". Comey has said three times I didn't do anything with the Russians.

"It horrifies liberals. I think he will be there for 8 years".

The most prominent of those Trump backers was Gingrich, who tweeted Monday that Republicans were "delusional" if they thought Mueller would be fair. I don't think they're going to get the president, but they're going to get somebody, and they're going to get him for something. Gingrich added that no one on Capitol Hill has proof he (Trump) colluded with the Russians.

Gingrich then flipped his view about Mueller and has publicly questioned his credibility and fairness and joined Trump by calling the investigation a "witch hunt".

Newt Gingrich said the shooting at congressional Republicans' baseball practice is part of a pattern of "an increasing intensity of hostility on the left". I know you disagree but I don't care.

"I, frankly, began to switch the minute Comey, in his remarkable public statement, says, I deliberately leaked to a college professor to leak to The New York Times for the objective of getting a special counsel", Gingrich said.

"Mueller is setting up a dragnet of obstruction, financial questions and every aspect of Trump's life and his associates lives.very unsafe", Gingrich continued. Gingrich was referring to a tweet by Trump on Friday that appeared to confirm that the president is under investigation in the Russian Federation probe.

"He couldn't find a single pro-Trump attorney to hire, I think that's a mistake to pretend that this is some neutral investigation". I mean, he's been a fighter his whole life.
