Celtic could face Belfast club Linfield in July 12th qualifier
19 June 2017, 06:31 | Kelvin Horton
Linfield captain Jamie Mulgrew lifts the Gibson Cup after the Premiership title was secured
If Linfield manage to overcome their opponents to set up a date with Celtic, the first leg of the encounter is to take place on July 12, the main day of the Orange Order marches.
But earlier today sports journalist Steven Beacom took to Twitter, reporting that the two clubs have already agreed that the game will not take place on July 12.
It remains to be seen how any issues could be resolved.
A trip to Belfast during marching season for Brendan Rodgers' treble-winners is sure to cause security concerns for the Scottish champions given past sectarian tensions and after the draw was made, pretty much everyone made the exact same same joke on social media regarding the mouth-watering tie.
Like Linfield, Welsh side The New Saints must also enter at the first qualifying round stage.
The Republic of Ireland worldwide said: "It's going to be a tough game in Europe".
Long-time admirer of the green and white side of Glasgow, Barcelona legend Xavi has once again expressed his love for Celtic ahead of the Champions League qualification rounds. Derry will be away in the first game.
Rodgers, however, got off to a disappointing start twelve months ago when Celtic were beaten 1-0 by part-time Gibraltar club Lincoln Red Imps in July 2016.
"I've never really thought about stuff off the park". If the first competitive game is in Ireland, I'll look forward to it. We're talking player holidays, stag dos and sporting bans, and we even have Dion Fanning taking on the Lottoland Chipping Challenge. "We have to approach every game the same".
