WIMAUMA, Fla. (AP) - A man riding a motorcycle hit an alligator that was crossing a rural Florida road, throwing him from his bike.

Nelson was thrown off his motorcycle and landed on the overpass for the Little Manatee River.

Authorities say this is the second time an alligator was hit in the same area of Wimauma, FL on State Road 674.

Nelson was taken to a Tampa hospital. The alligator was listed in critical condition and was picked up by alligator trapper Rob Upthegrove, according to FHP.

On Wednesday, an alligator was stuck and killed by a vehicle while trying to cross Interstate 75 on Wednesday night in Sarasota Florida, the Bradenton Herald reports.

FHP said late Friday afternoon the alligator had died.

If you see an alligator on the road, use caution, Hibler said. He tried unsuccessfully to avoid the gator.
