Galaxy S8: Flagship series sales could cross 40 million units say analysts

The success of Samsung's semiconductor business can be put down to strong demand for its DRAM and NAND flash memory chips from Chinese smartphone makers, which are now rolling out flagship models with up to 6 gigabytes of RAM. Its sales stayed almost flat at 50 trillion won ($44 billion) during the first quarter.

So naturally, Samsung would have likely been able to post even greater profits for Q1 of this year if the Galaxy Note 7 issue didn't crop up, but thankfully it didn't impact the company that much.

The global memory chip leader said first-quarter operating profit was likely 9.9 trillion won (RM39.02 billion), compared with an average forecast of 9.4 trillion won from a Thomson Reuters survey of 18 analysts.

"Samsung will look to recover market share they lost previous year and pump up volumes even if they have to spend more to do so", IBK's Kim said.


Samsung's reputation took a bigger hit as a result of a corruption scandal which has gripped the company and South Korea. Today here is the comparison between the Apple iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7.

The forecast puts the company back in the game for record annual earnings, fastly recovering from last year's bump with the fire-catching Galaxy Note 7, which cost the company $5.3 billion in operating profit.
