20 April 2017, 05:58 | Jodi Jackson

"Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Robert Godwin, Sr". Godwin was walking down a Cleveland, Ohio, street when Stephens gunned him down, then posted a video of the shooting on Facebook.

State police Major William Teper Jr. said the trooper who bumped Stephens' vehicle "saw him pull the gun out and shoot himself".

Stephens had been on the run for almost 48 hours after posting grisly video on Facebook of himself shooting and killing 74-year-old Robert Godwin, Sr.at 695 East 93rd Street in Cleveland.

"She's the reason why this is about to happen to you", Stephens said on the video.

"In addition to encouraging Stephens to turn himself in, Debbie Godwin voiced her forgiveness, saying, "(Y) ou know what, I believe that God would give me the grace to even embrace this man. "I guess he wanted to be caught".

Mrs Wheeler said she heard sirens speeding past her "two seconds later" and described how police cars pursued the white Ford Fusion down the highway.

The incident was the latest grisly crime posted on Facebook, reviving questions about videos posted on the world's largest social network, and how - or if - they can be monitored. He was a "big exaggerator", she said.

Lane told CNN affiliate WJW she was devastated the victim said her name before he was shot.

"At a little after 11, state police officers received information that Stephens' white vehicle was parked in a McDonald's auto park", said Williams. "And that's been hard", Lane said. But they ended their relationship and she pushed for him to seek help for issues with gambling.

The Godwin sisters told Lane that none of this was her fault and that they don't hold any animosity for her. Stephens' cellphone had been tracked Sunday afternoon near Erie, officials said on Monday.

After the Godwin killing, a nationwide manhunt ensued, ending in Stephens' death not far from where he was spotted at a McDonald's in Pennsylvania.

"I don't know if I know how to be Joy Lane anymore".
