House Speaker Jay Lucas and a large bipartisan group of House lawmakers held a press conference Tuesday criticizing the Senate's inaction on the infrastructure funding bill and also McMaster's threat to veto the legislation.
In response to public criticism, including pushback from the state's police chiefs, bill sponsor Sen.
Earlier this month, Senate Judiciary Chairman Greg Steube had told the Herald/Times he wasn't giving up on holding a hearing for some of his more controversial gun bills this year, which proposed to eliminate some "gun-free" zones in Florida.
The bill would still allow homeowners' associations to prohibit Airbnb rentals.
The Senate's chief blocker, Republican Tom Davis of Beaufort, insists no additional money should go to the DOT until legislators eliminate the DOT commission, which they pick, and the governor's office has full oversight.
Last session, Texas approved open carry of handguns but only for Texans with concealed carry licenses.
No action was taken on the gas tax bill, so the Senate will reconvene Thursday at 10am. Either a close family member or a police officer could request the protection order.
