It has been quite some time since Samsung has announced the launch of their latest flagship device. The AMOLED display can also be blamed, as Samsung used a deep-red technology supposed to address previous complaints that said its screens have a blue-leaning color.

The Galaxy S8 has a 5.8-inch display screen, while the Galaxy S8+ has a 6.2-inch screen. The S8+ has a 3,500 mAh battery. It has got an aspect ratio of 18:5.9.

"These devices will offer our consumers a gateway to a new mobile life where the power of innovation will carry them beyond barriers", Asim Warsi, Senior Vice President, Mobile Business, Samsung India, told reporters at the launch event. Bixby will also work with a number of other native Samsung apps such as Camera, Gallery, Contacts and Messages.

Both the phones are powered by a 2.3GHz octa-core Exynos 8895 processor clubbed with Mali-G71 MP20 GPU and 4 gigs of RAM along with 64GB of internal memory.

Both the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ come with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, an iris scanner and facial recognition for biometric security. Other details about the handset are not available, but we'll update you as soon as we get to hear more about it. There is an option to clean out unnecessary background apps, while another button lets you choose from various power modes, which includes optimized, game, performance, and entertainment. Galaxy S8 is the successor of the Galaxy S7, which was launched past year. Meanwhile, The e-commerce website, Flipkart had earlier put out a teaser poster for the launch of the phone in the country, on their website. The two smartphones will be available on Flipkart.com as well as retail outlets from later this week. Both the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will come with a brand new display. The smartphones are running Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box and have a dedicated button on the side for Bixby, Samsung's new AI personal assistant. The Galaxy S8 largely sticks with what worked last time around, hardware-wise, with another 12-megapixel main camera with f/1.7 aperture.

And of course, Galaxy's biggest competition, Apple's iPhone 8 is also rumored to feature an interesting, nearly bezel-less design.
