NBA scores: Cavaliers take 2-0 series lead over Pacers

Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue talks with Iman Shumpert in the second half in Game 2 of a first-round NBA basketball playoff series Monday

The Cleveland Cavaliers held off a late rally from the Indiana Pacers en route to their game 2 victory.

"We're not doing anything aggressively right now", Pacers coach Nate McMillan said postgame. It's playoffs, guys are playing a lot of minutes and they're competing. I didn't say anything even close to throwing them under the bus.

Despite all that - and 42 points from The Big Three and.600 shooting from the field (24-for-40) - the Cavs led just 63-58 at intermission because they committed 11 turnovers and IN connected at a.523 clip (23-for-44).

Lue might be on to something about fatigue.

There are a number of reason why LeBron James is still the basket player in the world, but his versatility as a scorer is what jumps off the page at this stage of his career.

The shot selection shows something similar. Cleveland had just two assists in the period.

The question was about the Cavs being outscored in the fourth quarter for the second consecutive game. But not so much the (isolation) because we have good players who can do that. Defensively, we just didn't play that right. "That's what hurt our defense was our offense tonight". Whether his shot is falling or not, he brings that intensity, that resolve. "Also hit a big 3 on a swing-swing from Kev on the left side of the floor by their bench". Cleveland led by as many as 19, but IN was able to get within four before falling behind 2-0 IN the best-of-seven matchup. He put up 37 points on 14 shots and went 19-for-19 from the free throw line.

This loss comes back to the decisive third quarter though, where the Pacers just couldn't get anything to go, and the Cavaliers exposed them. "We were moving, we were flying around and we were communicating on coverages and allowed us to have that third".

It's nearly better to think of Love as the small forward in the starting lineup and James as the power forward when looking at his value as the roll man. James is obviously at his best with the ball in his hands and he has the same tool kit as Draymond Green as a playmaking roll man.

"He's got to learn to control himself". "When he shoots that thing he's going to make it every single time".

"It was really good for us", Lue said of Shumpert. This has to stop, they need to keep their foot on the gas, and the Cavaliers need to figure out these fourth quarter issues before they run into a team that they can't beat on pure talent alone.

One thing that is working is doubling Paul George almost every time he touches the ball. "That was just a moment in the game that we took advantage of a certain situation and they kept feeding me". "It's hard to win playoff games like that". He made some big plays for us and that's a step in the right direction of being a consummate professional, especially being on a team like this. "Everybody knows we (Stephenson and I) have a strong relationship".

For the second straight game, the Pacers did. When asked about those blown leads by WFNY's own Scott Sargent, head coach Tyronn Lue immediately pointed out that it was the offense, not the defense to blame. It's the playoffs. Only the end result matters.

Cleveland came into the fourth quarter with an 18-point lead and saw the Pacers cut it all the way to four with 19.5 seconds remaining, reminiscent of the way IN was able to turn a 12-point deficit late IN the third quarter IN Game 1 to a two-point lead with 3:31 remaining IN the fourth Saturday. "We haven't won, but we can take some positives from the games we played". He scored four in nine minutes.

That's the next step in the Cavs' process, finding a way to play a complete game.
