More than 21000 expected at Trump's first Easter Egg Roll

Social media were buzzing on Monday (April 17) with the lighter side of President Donald Trump's first Easter egg roll, where First Lady Melania Trump nudged him to national anthem form.

The first family joined their guests on the South Lawn, as President Donald Trump, along with First Lady Melania, colored with kids as part of some of the day's activities.

He was accompanied by somebody dressed up in an Easter bunny costume.

In the days after Donald Trump erroneously accused his predecessor Barack Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower during the 2016 election, the White House "put out an all-points bulletin" to "find something that justified the President's insane tweets about surveillance", The New Yorker's Ryan Lizza reports.

Melania Trump spoke to the crowd prior to the festivities.

When the music began for the national anthem, Melania and Barron both raised their hands to their hearts-but Trump needed a nudge from Melania to keep in mind to do so.

"We're going to come out and join you, and enjoy your company for a roll", said the president from his papal-like perch overlooking the White House lawn.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, who previously donned the Easter Bunny suit during the George W. Bush administration, happily took on the role of storyteller at this year's event. He said that the First Lady has worked for long just to make the event a flawless one and in line with how they want to be. "We are right on track", he said, speaking of the nation's strength under fewer than 100 days of his leadership.

The White House Easter Egg Roll event is a tradition dating all the way back to 1878.
