And the Kremlin said Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iran's leader Hassan Rouhani condemned the cruise-missile attack Thursday on Syria's Shayrat airfield and urged the United Nations Security Council to take action against the U.S. for launching the attack that violated "the sovereignty of an independent country".
After last Tuesday's chemical attack in Syria, Trump said his attitude toward Assad "has changed very much" and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said "steps are underway" to organize a coalition to remove him from power.
On Friday morning, the U.S. launched 59 Tomahawk missiles from its warships in the eastern Mediterranean, targeting Syria's Shayrat airbase near Homs.
US President Donald Trump ordered the strikes after he blamed Assad for this week's chemical attack, which killed at least 70 people, many of them children, in the Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun.
Tillerson said Sunday he hopes Russian Federation will "be supportive of a process that will lead to a stable Syria".
Earlier on Sunday, Rep. Adam Schiff of California, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said on ABC News' "This Week" that Russian Federation is "complicit" in the chemical attack in Syria. "But clearly they've been incompetent and perhaps they've just simply been outmaneuvered by the Syrians", he said on ABC's "This Week".

In the ongoing war in Syria, Russia has backed the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad militarily.
The Associated Pressreported that Washington was investigating whether Russian Federation had any involvement in the suspected chemical attack on civilians in the Idlib Province.
The attack has also called into question the relationship between the USA and Russian Federation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday called the USA strike "aggression against a sovereign state in violation of the norms of worldwide law". A spokesman for the Russian defense ministry said the U.S. had no proof of chemical weapons at the air base.
The US and United Kingdom have blamed Russia for being complicit in the horrific deaths of innocent Syrians in last week's chemical attack and the federation is facing the threat of fresh global sanctions over its support for the dictator.
