The bill failed in a Senate committee in 2016, never making it to the full Senate.

Opponents tried to block the bill using House procedural rules and debate stretched on for hours, but it passed Wednesday 110-37. It would declare non-discrimination ordinances, including San Antonio's, "null and void".

On Tuesday, House leaders gathered to speak and try to pressure senators to pass this gas tax.

Because the formula seeks to equalize how much funding all districts get, some would see funding levels decrease. Before the session, he said he believed it was an issue worth examining but has since declined to take a position on Senate Bill 6.

In a move that may have corporations rattled, the Florida Senate Judiciary Committee has advanced a bill to allow for prejudgment interest to be collected in personal injury settlements. "Just as homeschool families pay taxes to local school districts, their children should be afforded the opportunity to participate in taxpayer-funded UIL activities".

Lucas was referring to a plane that flew over last weekend's RBC Heritage golf tournament in Hilton head, towing a sign that read "Fix the damn roads", paid for by the pro-gas-tax increase S.C. Alliance to Fix Our Roads. "It basically comes down to one thing, that our school finance system needs help".

The House budget allowance for this bill would provide more funding to more school districts for busing, but many legislators expressed concern that the money would be stretched thin because districts that didn't provide bus service would still receive transportation money.

The end of this year's legislative session is rushing up to greet state lawmakers, and one the most closely watched debates they're tangling over is medical marijuana. The measure passed the House 50-14 on March 21.

LGBT advocates have been opposed to both measures.

House Speaker Jay Lucas said Tuesday the Senate's inability to pass a long-term road-funding plan has already put South Carolinians "on the hook" for an additional $1 billion, and the tab continues to climb.

Texas guarantees state high school graduates admission to public universities if they finish in the top 10 percent of their class.

The Senate approved a bill that would allow home-schooled students to participate in public school sports and other activities.

"While our system is lawful, it is very bad", he added.

These letters were sent out shortly after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signaled support for the House's proposed bathroom bill, scheduled for a committee hearing Wednesday.

"We were hoping to at least have a discussion in committee on them, but the majority party decided they didn't even want to do that".

The Legislature has tweaked ASATR twice since 2006 and in 2011 added a sunset provision, setting the program to expire September 1, 2017.

Spearman told the Senate Judiciary Committee last week the proposal is created to protect domestic violence survivors from the "very real threat" of gun violence in their lives.

School districts would not be required to participate but could establish their own policies.
