White House defends Trump's visits to his golf club

Rep. Devin Nunes, chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence

Those questions don't have anything to do with whether Trump was correct in tweeting that Obama ordered Trump to be wiretapped during the campaign.

Did he play any golf? Only one time - while hosting Abe - did the President also visit Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter.

The White House hasn't revealed whether Trump - ranked the 12th best politician-golfer by Golf Digest previous year - is playing today on his Jim Fazio-designed course. "I'm not going to have time to go play golf", Trump said at one campaign rally in Virginia last August.

Now that Trump is President, the comments are coming back to complicate his golf habit.

It is not ongoing anywhere but at the White House.

Trump and the White House also sought to deflect the pressure onto Obama and his former aides, accusing them of being behind several recent leaks of classified information, including the revelation that former Trump National Security Advisor Mike Flynn was overheard on an intercept discussing Russia sanctions with the Russian Ambassador to the USA during the presidential transition.

For a White House that has sometimes been loath to acknowledge basic facts - including photographs showing that the crowd at Trump's inauguration was smaller than at Obama's - it is the latest example of officials essentially asking people not to believe their own eyes. "He may also step out to hit some golf balls, we're told but not yet confirmed".

Obama golfed 333 times as president, according to Mark Knoller of CBS News, who is considered the foremost authority on presidential scheduling.

"You saw him utilize this as opportunity with Prime Minister Abe to help foster deeper relationships in Asia and have a growing relationship that's going to help US interests", Spicer told reporters.

Trump made critiquing Obama for golfing a part of his 2016 message.

"We had a mini-Cabinet meeting two weeks ago at his club in Virginia", Spicer said, referring to Trump's gathering of some top aides at Trump National Virginia in Potomac Falls two weeks ago. "I'm not going to have time to go play golf".

"Spicer pointed to Trump's meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, arguing that they were able to develop their relationship while playing golf". "Your pooler inquired about who POTUS will the meeting and calls are with".

"It's clear that nothing has changed", he said of Monday's hearing. Today is the 58th day of Trump's presidency.

Now, citing the President's privacy, Trump's aides are left trying to hide the President's frequent golfing.
