Coleman becomes just the third player from South Hampton Roads to receive this honor. The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement, and exemplary character on and off the court.

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound senior forward led the Bison to a 16-7 record and the semifinals of the Class AA state tourney this year.

He is the seventh Gatorade Wyoming Boys Basketball Player of the Year from Gillette and joins Kalina Smith, who was previously named Gatorade Wyoming Girls Basketball Player of the Year, as well as Gatorade Wyoming Volleyball Player of the Year this season.

Hollingsworth is the first WKU signee to win Gatorade's Kentucky Player of the Year award since Steffphon Pettigrew in 2007. A 2017 McDonald's All-American Game selection and a Naismith Trophy High School Player of the Year semifinalist, he is ranked as the nation's No. 12 recruit in the Class of 2017 by ESPN. He also is a devoted member of his church community and has volunteered locally for the Kids Against Hunger youth basketball program. "He has a very high basketball IQ and I believe he is top player in the state of Missouri this season".

Oak Hill senior Matt Coleman was named Gatorade Virginia Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

Ridder averaged 24.2 points going into the final four weekend in Columbia.

Moody has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at the University of North Dakota. Every Gatorade Player of the Year state victor receives a $1,000 grant to donate and will have the opportunity to enter for an additional $10,000 spotlight grant by writing a brief essay explaining why their selected organization deserves additional support.
