Sony Xperia L1 launched with less power but a big screen: everything you need to know

Sony announces Xperia L1 budget smartphone

Sony has announced a new budget Android smartphone, the Xperia L1. Although L1's name may suggest ties with 2013's peculiar Xperia L, the new phone bears nearly no resemblance to it, as it is decidedly more slender and more stylish in its presentation.

The Xperia L1 has a 5.5-inch 1280x720 LCD with a narrow bezel design. It will be available from late April, but Sony is yet to announce United Kingdom availability and pricing. It will be initially available in three colors: white, black, and pink. It offers a few interesting features including what Sony calls the Xperia Actions engine, which adapts the device's settings and functionality to your surroundings. Additionally, on the camera end, the smartphone is equipped with a 13 MP camera with f/2.2 on the rear panel and a 5 MP camera with 24 mm wide angle lens and f/2.2 aperture.

The Sony Xperia L1 has a 1.45GHz quad-core MediaTek chipset coupled with 2GB of RAM. Nevertheless, you shouldn't have any trouble when it comes to storage, as you can expand it for an additional 256GB with a microSD card.

The Xperia L1 also plugs in via USB Type-C, which means you can connect the charging cable either way around.

It was rumoured before MWC started that Sony would be announcing five new phones, and it seems that was accurate - the L1 just came along a little late. To give you an example, it can automatically set the device to "Do not disturb" and lower display brightness at night.
