Samsung officially unveils Bixby, its new AI assistant for mobile and IoT

Rhee also said that Bixby will have its own button on the side of our next device - the Galaxy S8 - which will reduce the steps to reach to the activity you desire, such as making calls and other tasks, by pressing and uttering the command. Samsung says that when an app is Bixby-enabled, Bixby "will be able to support nearly every task that the application is capable of performing using the conventional interface".
The Galaxy S8 will contain a subset of Bixby-enabled applications at launch, and the set will continue to expand over time. Finally, Samsung claims Bixby can understand incomplete commands, so you hopefully won't be forced to memorize rote phrases.
Move over Siri, Cortana, and Alexa, there's a new voice-controlled artificially intelligent assistant in town: Samsung's Bixby. It's also created to ask for more info and build on what it does understand in a "piecemeal" fashion, meaning it won't just give up and route you elsewhere if it can't figure out what it wants the user to have it do. For this reason, Samsung chose to employ artificial intelligence and implement deep learning concepts at the core of their new design, and Bixby is the end result.
Finally, there's "Cognitive Tolerance". This means that when Bixby is activated, it'll be able to understand the current context and the state of the app that you're in without interrupting the work that you're doing. It will reportedly also be contextually aware, allowing you to jump between voice and touch commands as you're trying to accomplish something. Samsung also thinks that Bixby won't be so intimidating to use, as it'll work through partial commands and won't hold users to such specific standards, like other assistants. The company also confirmed that Bixby is indeed debuting on the Galaxy S8, although we might see it in a more limited capacity at first. It's exciting to hear that Bixby will be able to control most every task in an app that you could perform by touching the screen, which means that you should be able to get a lot done in Bixby-enabled apps without ever touching your device. Support for Bixby will be added to more apps in the next months, and the plan is to provide an SDK for third-party developers to add Bixby to their applications. It looks like the integration of Viv will take more time, and the launch version of Bixby will not include it. After months of speculation, and after confirming the existence of Bixby on its website, Samsung made a decision to tell us what Bixby is and what it can do.
"We are fundamentally and conceptually changing our attitude toward software and services and working hard on innovation throughout all aspects of our mobile ecosystem", said Rhee, adding that Samsung has "thousands of software developers supporting this effort".
