As part of the collaboration, IBM also announced that it has become a Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider, Additionally, as part of the agreement, Red Hat Cloud Access will be available for IBM Cloud by the end of the second quarter of 2017, allowing Red Hat customers to move eligible, unused Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscriptions from their data centers to public, virtualized cloud environments in IBM Cloud data centers.

The changes, announced at IBM Interconnect in Las Vegas, are implemented via IBM's new Cloud Storage Object Flex structure, which offers a pay-as-you-go facility that it claims could undercut AWS S3 IA by 53%, and Azure GRS Cool Tier by up to 75%.

The two vendors will eventually jointly market and sell the new solutions for private cloud deployments, including workload migrations, disaster recovery, datacenter consolidation and capacity expansion.

IBM unveiled a raft of new products and services at its InterConnect conference here today, aimed at making it easier for large enterprise customers to adopt IBM's cloud services, while also better managing existing on-premises and hybrid cloud enterprise networks. IBM's promise on this service is that it will offer customers a way to get the data they've marked for cold storage in the IBM Cloud "in hundreds of milliseconds instead of minutes".

IBM and Veritas are long-time partners, and joint adopters of one another's technology. The facility will be made available via sales channels, and is meant to form part of IBM's Global Business Services framework model.

"This agreement will provide our respective global clients with greater control of their data and greater management capabilities through the cloud", said John Morris, General Manager, Cloud Object Storage, IBM. "Veritas is a great example of a company using IBM Cloud to innovate for both its business and its clients". The new model IBM is offering is aimed at businesses which require a less stratified and more flexible approach to data retrieval. Based on IBM's acquisition of Cleversafe in 2015, IBM Cloud Object Storage brings advanced object storage technology to the cloud. Incorporating native support for IBM Cloud Object Storage into AltaVault solutions allows NetApp users to deploy backup data to the IBM Cloud. Similarly, IBM Resiliency Services includes Veritas NetBackup as an integral part of its managed Backup-as-a-Service offering.

Red Hat and IBM said they will provide the necessary hybrid cloud infrastructure to help customers more efficiently run cloud applications using OpenStack APIs.
