Google Maps can now save your parking spot

Once you tap it, Google Maps will automatically save your current location inside Maps and add a reminder to your notification pane. The app also lets you include how much time is remaining on the spot, and it'll set a timer to keep you from running over. While you might not need the feature all the time, it could be killer when you're parking at a crowded event, or in a multi-level parking garage where just dropping a pin won't exactly help you determine which of the nine floors you might have left it on. If you hate this feature, you can turn it off.

You already have to keep track of so much during the day, and so your precious brain space ought not be crowded with petty information like where you parked your auto.

In the app's latest beta on Android, you're able to tap on the little blue dot that represents you to pull up the option to leave a parking reminder. You'll be presented with a new menu offering to "save your parking", which lets you store all the information you need to find your auto again.

And if you happen to be in a metered spot, Google Maps will also let you input data on how much time you have left, setting a timer to remind you to either high-tail it back to your auto, or pay the piper.

For now, this feature is just inside the beta version of Google Maps on Android. At the same time, it will give you an estimated time or arrival, which is great, especially if you need to meet someone at the destination, as you could give a time when will get to him/her. While remembering your parking location is something Apple Maps has done since the launch of iOS 10, Google's implementation is a bit more robust.

The addition to Maps was spotted earlier today by Ars Technica, which notes that your spot is saved until you clear it manually or record a new parking location.
